This is a 100% online Fertility Yoga Teacher Training course. The course is suitable for all those who have a calling to utilise the principles of yoga to work with those suffering from fertility issues, perhaps due to personal experience of the struggle or professional circumstances that have called upon these resources.

Many of our students have home commitments, or financial restraints which make getting to face to face training a little problematic. Our training was designed to give you the flexibility you need to get qualified in your time and at your pace, in a specialism that you feel drawn to.

Current research has shown that the stress levels of women with infertility are equivalent to women with cancer, AIDS or heart disease. So these classes really are needed. In this course, you will learn the principles of developing targeted, informative and supportive yoga classes to students through what may be an incredibly difficult time for them.

The course is a 75 hour course and has a 6 month time limit (although with dedication many complete more quickly) and during this time you will have continual access to and support from your experienced and heart centred personal tutor Lara Heppell (find out more about Lara below). We also offer ongoing aftercare to all our students and a supportive private facebook group for you to be a part of should you wish to.

You will complete the course with a thorough understanding of fertility yoga, as well as advertising materials, personal class plans and teaching experience (all with the mentorship of your tutor).

About the Course Content

This online course consists of 3 fully illustrated modules, each with a 3-question assignment, bonus handouts and videos. The aim of the course is to offer simple and safe yoga techniques to women and couples who are trying to conceive. To do this well, teachers need to be aware of the causes of infertility and how failure to conceive can affect couples, as well as knowing the appropriate support.

Required reading for the course is Fully Fertile (not supplied)

Focusing primarily on yoga and oriental medicine, the book covers a number of topics, including nutrition, acupuncture, meditation and prayer. The authors, Tamara Quinn, Elisabeth Heller, and Jeanie Lee Bussell have all experienced infertility, and share their stories throughout the book.

You will be encouraged to think for yourself and develop your own style within a clear framework of guidelines and practices contained within the required and recommended reading.

Module 1

Known causes of infertility, global infertility rates, Assisted Reproduction Technology (ART), cultural attitudes to childlessness, nutrition and lifestyle, the Svadhisthana Chakra

Module 2

Asana for fertility, restorative poses, course and class content

Module 3

Understanding the power of partner yoga, pair work for couples, designing workshops for couples

Before you were conceived, I wanted you
Before you were born, I loved you
Before you were here an hour, I would die for you
This is the miracle of love.

– Maureen Hawkins

Course Aims

Fertility yoga is all about working with students that are struggling to conceive a baby. Our aim is to train you so that you offer professional and appropriate support to your students with fertility problems, whether they are having medical treatment or seeking a natural alternative.

It’s vital to stress up front that fertility yoga cannot guarantee a baby or successful treatment outcome. Anyone who advertises this should clearly be avoided. What it can do is reduce the stress associated with infertility, enabling time, space and respite from the mental chatter “citta vritti’ which goes with fertility issues. These classes also provide students with a practical yoga toolset they can use for strength, balance and improved health.

Once you have graduated from our course you can choose to teach group classes, which can function as a support network for those undergoing fertility challenges. You could also work 1-1 with ladies or work together with couples. Whichever you choose, you are sure to find this area of yoga teaching challenging, stimulating and rewarding.

Course Tutor - Lara Heppell

Lara has been practising yoga for over 20 years, teaching for 15 and is a Senior Yoga Teacher, Women’s Wellness Mentor, Teacher Trainer, Mizan abdominal massage therapist, Doula and Women’s circle facilitator.

Initially trained in Dynamic yoga with Godfrey Devereux she then went on to study at the renowned KYM in India. After a period of illness with suspected womb health issues and finding conceiving her son not quite as straightforward as she expected, Lara started to explore a gentler approach to yoga and began to study with Liz Koch and Uma Dinsmore Tuli.

Lara became fascinated by Womb Yoga and the effect of Yoga upon fertility, the menstrual cycle and conception, and she undertook extensive training in Pregnancy Yoga, Mum and Baby Yoga, Womb Yoga, Well Woman Yoga Therapy, Menstrual Health, Menopause and Fertility. She has also studied with Alexandra Pope and runs introductory courses for teachers on how to safely integrate pre and postnatal students into Yoga classes.

An experienced Restorative Yoga teacher Lara trained with the world-renowned teacher Judith Hanson Lasater, and the teachings of Fabiano Cularo in Somatic movement and the Yoga goddess Angela Farmer completely altered her way of thinking.

She regularly teaches a variety of classes, workshop and retreats at Yoga Kula studio in Leeds as well as on the Yoga Kula Teacher training programme. Lara offers mentoring and supervision support to newer teachers too.

Lara is passionate about nurturing and supporting women’s wellbeing at every stage of life through Yoga, movement, meditation, bodywork and seasonal and cycle awareness. She has appeared in Woman and Home magazine, The Sunday Telegraph and ITV Tonight’s The Truth about Menopause documentary.

“For me Yoga is self-love in action and helps me find balance in a busy world, and as mum to a very active son. I’m obsessed with my cycle, the seasons and the ways in which we can work more closely with ourselves and nature to bring more awareness, compassion and balance into our lives. I thrive on listening to music, being out in nature, or being by the sea – it soothes and calms my wild side!”

My aim in the yoga that I teach is to support women to find more balance and harmony in their lives by deepening their inner connection to their own bodies’ needs.”

“I completed my 200 hours Yoga Teaching Training in 2017. As an ultrasonograper for many years in a very busy Fertility Clinic I knew there was a need for yoga to be incorporated for clients & staff. I was excited to find a course which suited my needs & time-frame. I was able to study at my own rate but had an amazing mentor in Lara. I loved that the course was wide-ranging & gave me ample opportunities for my own research. It was great to join my job with my love of yoga. I would highly recommend this course” – Alison Thomas

Course author - JANE MACKARNESS

Jane has been studying and practicing yoga for 41 years, teaching since 1979, and training teachers for 21 years. Based in Devon, she offers classes and teacher training workshops and courses in the UK and abroad, and is the author of the perinatal and fertility yoga teacher training courses offered here by Lara Heppell.

Jane was introduced to yoga at the age of 13, when her mother Ruth attended classes with the late B K S Iyengar in London in 1966. Ruth loved his classes and Iyengar gave her his book, the classic Light on Yoga, dedicated to her and containing notes for her personal practice after a mastectomy. When Ruth died in 1967, Jane inherited this treasure and comforted herself by practicing yoga.

After studying integral yoga for four years with the late Kevin Kingsland, Jane studied for the BWY Dip with Jenni Adams, and started teaching in 1979. She continuously studies and refers to texts from the great teachers Iyengar, Swami Jnaneshvara Bharati, T K V Desikachar, Donna Farhi and Mooji, and attends workshops when time allows.

Jane is an E-RYT with the US Yoga Alliance, qualified to conduct teacher training and offer yoga CPD workshops and courses. She has thousands of hours teaching and training experience, is a Yoga Elder (Independent Yoga Network) and a Professional Member of the IAYT (International Association of Yoga Therapists). She qualified as a Classical Homeopath with Misha Norland in 1987 and practiced for several years, she is also a Reiki Master.

Jane’s current focus is on Yoga Nidra and Trauma Sensitive Yoga teacher training. Since her beloved son Guy died in 2013, yoga and yoga nidra practice have been a lifeline, more than ever before.

Yoga is 100% reliable; practiced with attention to the breath, spine, alignment, and deep relaxation; it always moves us into a better space. Stillness and silence are powerful teachers.

“I don’t think that a part of the course could be improved informational wise or how it is set up. I loved the course and how it is created now. What I enjoyed most from the course was that I could do it in my own time, and once I submitted a module the feedback from Lara was fast and given in a really clear and positive way. Another thing I enjoyed was the clear, directional and informational content in the modules: not too length and certainly not boring.” – Laura Van Leeuwen
