Helpful Yoga practices to ease us into Autumn
From a yoga perspective, practices that can help improve circulation, work into the belly and colon and help bring balance to the body are great for Autumn time.
Vata energy is high in Autumn – this is the energy of ether, air and space. Yoga practices that help ground and balance us more to bring us out of our heads and into our bodies are very beneficial at this time.

Suggested practices and inspiration:
- Try some belly focused and balancing poses and meditations
- Massage is always good for getting circulation going and removing toxins. Mizan massage, in particular, is great at this time of year.
- Eat an immunity boosting diet including hot water and lemon and turmeric for building immunity, and warm healing and nourishing foods.
- Practice some grounding exercises, including going barefoot on the grass. Or do savasana with your feet against a wall
- Practice mindfulness every day, simply slow down and notice your breath and surroundings. A lovely idea is the leaf meditation.
Small changes can make a big difference!
Here are a few suggestions you can bring into every week:
- Carry out a Sunday self-care practice. Review the week ahead and take one or two appointments or things to do off your calendar.
- Practice mindful eating and mindful walking, noticing each part of the process. As your mind slows down so do you.
- Rest daily. SAVASANA for a full 20 minutes if you can. Book it in your diary like a meeting.
- Always include a little bit of pleasure into every day. Whether it be a candlelit bath or your favourite raw chocolate. It’s good to have a balance in all things, but most importantly choose what works for you. Develop your own rituals that can help you to connect and slow down.
